YARN
For this project you'll need one ball of super chunky yarn with a tension of 8 stitches x 12 rows. One phone cosy will use 100g of yarn. As a beginner I recommend using yarn that’s 100% acrylic or mostly made of acrylic for your first project. 

 

RECOMMENDED YARNS

  • Scheepjes - Roma Big super chunky yarn.  This is a 200g ball with 120m (131 yds) per ball. The yarn is 100% acrylic. This is the yarn included in my kits. If you use a ball of this you'll have enough left over to make my bonus beginner scarf pattern. 
  • Plymouth Yarn - Encore Mega super chunky yarn. This is an 100g ball with 59m (65 yds) per ball. The yarn is made of acrylic (75%), superwash wool (25%).
  • Patons - Big Fab super chunky yarn. This is a 220g ball with 132m (144 yds) per ball. This yarn is 100% acrylic. Again this is a bigger ball so you'll be able to make the bonus scarf pattern from it. 

 

ALTERNATIVE YARNS

  • Schachenmayr Original - Bravo Big super chunky yarn. This an 200g ball with 120m (131 yds) per ball. The yarn is acrylic (100%).
  • Hayfield - Bonus super chunky yarn. This yarn has a 9 stitches and 12 row tension. This is slightly different to the recommended tension but is okay to use if you cannot find any yarn with the exact tension. This is an 100g ball with 82m (90 yds) per ball. The yarn is 100% acrylic.
  • Lion Brand - Hometown USA super chunky yarn. This yarn has a 9 stitches and 12 rows tension. This is slightly different to the recommended tension, but is okay to use if you cannot find any yarn with the exact tension. This is an 140g ball with 74m (91 yds) per ball. The yarn is 100% acrylic.


KNITTING NEEDLES
10mm (US 15) needles. I recommend using bamboo, birch or plastic.

If you're using your own decorating and design ideas for your phone cosy, you could use some squares of polyester felt in your chosen colours, pompoms, trimmings, or anything you’d like really!
