YARN

You'll need 1x 100g ball of chunky yarn in the colour you’d like your cup warmer to be. This is known as the main colour. The chunky yarn needs a tension of 14 stitches x 20 rows. This is the tension stated on the yarn’s ball band but is different to the tension in pattern. This tension is different because you'll be working in garter stitch and not stocking stitch. This is explained on page 35 of First Time Knits, under 'Tension'. You’ll also need a small amount of black yarn to decorate your cup warmer with. Buying a full ball will be useful to have yarn for future projects too.

MY RECOMMENDED YARN

  • Stylecraft - Special Chunky yarn. This is an 100g ball with 144m (157 yds) per ball. This yarn is 100% acrylic. This is the yarn included in my kits.

ALTERNATIVE YARNS

These yarns are all very similar to the Stylecraft Special Chunky yarn. They are all made of 100% acrylic and achieve the same tension. You could also use a different fibre, but just make sure the yarn has a tension of 14 stitches x 20 rows on the ball band.

  • King Cole - Big Value Poplar Chunky yarn. This is an 100g ball with 150m (164 yds) per ball. This yarn is acrylic (100%).
  • James C. Brett - Top Value Chunky yarn. This is an 100g ball with 150m (164 yds) per ball. This yarn is acrylic (100%).
  • Hayfield - Bonus Chunky yarn. This is an 100g ball with 137m (150 yds) per ball. This yarn is acrylic (100%).
  • Paintbox Yarns - Simply Chunky yarn. The is an 100g ball with 136m (149 yds) per ball. This yarn is acrylic (100%).
